Abstract: Background: Psoriasis is atchronic and recurrent disease that affects the skin, joints, and nails, &#xD;
characterised as an immune-mediated disorder with systemic involvement.tThis can lead to &#xD;
changes in the haemotological parameters as well. The tpsoriasis area and severity index (PASI) &#xD;
is a tool that assesses the severity of psoriasis lesions and the therapeutic response of the &#xD;
patients.tVarious studies have shown correlation between the PASI and haematological &#xD;
parameters. &#xD;
Aim: To assess the haematological parameters-  platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), platelet &#xD;
distribution width (PDW), neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), red cell distribution width &#xD;
(RDW),  mean platelet volume (MPV) and plataelet count (PLT) in psoriasis patients. These &#xD;
values will also be correlated with the disease severity. &#xD;
Materials and methods: A cross-sectional case-control study was conducted from May 2023 &#xD;
to January 2025 on 260 psoriasis patients and controls. The study was done at thetDepartment &#xD;
of &#xD;
Dermatology, Shri BM Patil Medical College Hospital and Research Center, &#xD;
Vijayapura.tComplete hemogram was done for all the study participants and the parameters &#xD;
were correlated with PASI in the cases. Additionally, the parameters were compared with that &#xD;
of controls. &#xD;
Results: PLT and NLR (p =0.045 and p =0.002 respectively) had a“statistically significant &#xD;
positive correlation”with PASI. On comparison of cases to controls, a statistically significant &#xD;
elevation was seen in the MPV (p =0.012 ) and NLR (p =0.012) in cases. &#xD;
Conclusion: NLR, PLT and MPV can be used as cost-effective and affordable laboratory &#xD;
markers in the assessment of disease severity in psoriasis, in conjunction with PASI (NLR, &#xD;
PLT).</summary>

Abstract: Introduction: Acne vulgaris affects pilosebaceous units, manifesting as comedones, papules, &#xD;
pustules, and nodules. While primarily affecting adolescents, it’s prevalence may continue into &#xD;
adulthood. Beyond cosmetic concerns, acne significantly affects psychological wellbeing and &#xD;
quality of life. Its pathophysiology involves four key factors: increased sebum production, abnormal &#xD;
follicular keratinization, Cutibacterium acnes colonization, and inflammation. Androgens play a &#xD;
crucial role, but modern research recognizes additional influences including diet, genetics, &#xD;
environment, and metabolism, establishing acne as a complex, multifactorial condition. A possible &#xD;
relationship between adult acne severity and body mass index has been explored in recent studies. &#xD;
Aims and objectives: We sought to assess the impact of body mass index on severity of acne. &#xD;
Materials and methods: In this single centre prospective case-control study 312 acne cases and &#xD;
312 age-matched controls were included, and their body mass index were also calculated according &#xD;
to WHO and Asian classification. Patients and controls above 18 years of age who were age and &#xD;
gender-matched, presenting to the Department of Dermatology, Shri BM Patil Medical College &#xD;
Hospital and Research Center, Vijayapura were included in the study.  &#xD;
Results:	The mean age of cases was 23.08 years, while that of controls was 25.03 years. A &#xD;
majority of the cases (60.3%) belonged to the younger age group (≤22 years). Additionally, there &#xD;
was a female predominance, with a female-to-male ratio of 1.35:1. There was no statistically &#xD;
significant difference between BMI of males and females. On comparing the mean BMI, it was &#xD;

lower in cases (21.659) than in controls (22.294) (p = 0.032), indicating that acne cases tend to have &#xD;
slightly lower BMI.  &#xD;
Limitations: Dietary and lifestyle factors were not recorded. &#xD;
Conclusions: This study provides novel evidence of an inverse relationship between BMI and both &#xD;
acne prevalence and severity in an adult population from North Karnataka, India.</summary>

    <title>Clinical and dermoscopic features of facial and non-facial lesions in patients with papulosquamous disorders - a cross sectional study</title>

Abstract: Background- Papulosquamous disorders are common, heterogenous group of disorders. &#xD;
Dermoscopic features of various papulosquamous disorders are well-characterized. Face is not &#xD;
commonly involved in these conditions, when involved they present differently because facial &#xD;
topography is different from non-facial skin. Clinical and dermoscopic features may vary for &#xD;
same reason. Further, face being a cosmetically significant area, invasive biopsy for confirmation &#xD;
of the diagnosis cannot be performed routinely. &#xD;
Aims and objectives-  &#xD;
• To study the clinical and dermoscopic features of facial and non-facial lesion in patients &#xD;
with papulosquamous disorders namely, plaque psoriasis, classical lichen planus, &#xD;
pityriasis rosea, seborrheic dermatitis and pityriasis rubra pilaris.  &#xD;
• To correlate clinical and dermoscopic features of different papulosquamous disorders.  &#xD;
Materials and methods- It is an hospital based cross-sectional study of 55 patients presenting &#xD;
with various papulosquamous disorders. Patients were subjected to detailed clinical and &#xD;
dermoscopic examination and categorized into plaque psoriasis, classical lichen planus, pityriasis &#xD;
rosea, seborrheic dermatitis and pityriasis rubra pilaris.  &#xD;
Results- Psoriasis was most common diagnosis (65.45%), followed by lichen planus (23.64%), &#xD;
while pityriasis rosea (3.64%), pityriasis rubra pilaris (3.64%), and seborrheic dermatitis (3.64%) &#xD;
were less frequent. The mean age for psoriasis and lichen planus was 28.01 and 27.23 years, &#xD;
respectively. Males were more frequently affected (65.45%). &#xD;

Dermoscopy of psoriasis revealed site-specific variations, with a red background (52.78%) and &#xD;
diffuse vessel distribution (97.14%) being predominant in non-facial lesions, while facial lesions &#xD;
showed a pink background (50%) and patchy vessel distribution (42.31%) (p &lt; 0.001). White &#xD;
scales were consistently present in both locations. &#xD;
In lichen planus, a violaceous pink background was most common in both facial (38.46%) and &#xD;
non-facial (61.54%) lesions, and Wickham striae were observed in 84.61% of cases. No &#xD;
significant site-specific variations were noted. &#xD;
Pityriasis rosea lesions showed a uniform pink background with white collarette scales and &#xD;
brown globules, with perifollicular scaling and hypopigmentation noted in 50% of cases. &#xD;
Pityriasis rubra pilaris exhibited a pinkish red background in both facial and non-facial lesions, &#xD;
with perifollicular scaling (100%) and diffuse white scaling (100%). Dermoscopic features were &#xD;
largely consistent across sites. &#xD;
Seborrheic dermatitis showed a pinkish background in both facial and non-facial lesions, whitish &#xD;
scales (100%) being the predominant features.  &#xD;
Conclusion- Dermoscopic analysis revealed significant site-specific differences in psoriasis, &#xD;
while lichen planus, PRP, PR, and SD displayed more consistent features across facial and non&#xD;
facial lesions. Dermoscopy remains a valuable tool for diagnosing and differentiating &#xD;
papulosquamous disorders.</summary>

Abstract: BACKGROUND: &#xD;
The prevalence of dermatophytic infections has recently surged worldwide, particularly in &#xD;
tropical nations like India. This is associated with change in the clinical pattern and &#xD;
mycological profile with poor response to treatment. This clinico-epidemiologic study helps to &#xD;
clarify the determinants of the trends associated with these dermatophytosis and the health &#xD;
burden of illness in the pediatric population. &#xD;
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: &#xD;
1. To determine the epidemiological profile of dermatophytosis among children (less than 15 &#xD;
years of age) attending dermatology OPD at tertiary care hospital. &#xD;
2. To assess clinico-mycological characteristics of dermatophytosis in pediatric population. &#xD;
MATERIALS AND METHODS: &#xD;
It is a hospital-based cross-sectional study. Children below 15 years of age clinically diagnosed &#xD;
to have dermatophytosis were be enrolled for the study. Detailed history about duration of &#xD;
disease, socioeconomic status, past history of medication and consultation, personal and family &#xD;
history were recorded. The Patients were examined to determine the clinical type of &#xD;
dermatophytosis. Specimen (skin scraping, hair, or nail clippings) for microbiological &#xD;
investigations was collected from the lesion. It was utilized for preparing a 10% KOH mount &#xD;
for direct microscopy for visualization of fungal hyphae. Irrespective of KOH mount result, the &#xD;
specimen was also inoculated in 3 media, Sabouraud dextrose agar without chloramphenicol &#xD;
and cycloheximide (SDA), Sabouraud dextrose agar with Chloramphenicol, and cycloheximide &#xD;

(SDA with antibiotics) and Dermatophyte test media (DTM). It was further sent to the &#xD;
microbiology laboratory for the purpose of incubation and isolation of species.      &#xD;
RESULTS &#xD;
The most commonly affected age group in this study was 13-15 years with male &#xD;
predominance. Maximum patients (39.9%) presented with 1-2 months duration of the lesion &#xD;
with 27.5% of the patients having history of self-medication. Past history of similar complaints &#xD;
was observed in 21.6 % of the patients and 41.8 % of the patients had similar complaints among &#xD;
family members or close contacts. Tinea Corporis was the most common clinical diagnosis &#xD;
followed by tinea Capitis. Tinea Corporis with tinea Capitis was the commonest presentation &#xD;
among the mixed type of dermatophytosis. Direct microscopy of a 10% KOH mount &#xD;
demonstrated fungal hyphae in 81 % of patient’s samples and culture positivity for &#xD;
dermatophytes seen was in 51 %. Trichophyton mentagrophyte (32.7 %) was the most common &#xD;
specie isolated followed by Trichophyton rubrum (12.4%). &#xD;
CONCLUSION: &#xD;
• Topical corticosteroids in combination with antifungal agents available over counter are &#xD;
grossly abused leading to chronic treatment resistant dermatophytosis. &#xD;
• Clinical failure from antifungal medication due to the persistence of risk factors, poor &#xD;
personal hygiene and inadequate knowledge of the infection and its features of treatment in &#xD;
the general population contribute to treatment resistant dermatophytosis. &#xD;
• This clinic-epidemiologic study helps to determine the epidemiological trends, the nature of &#xD;
the disease, the predisposing factors and the causative species of dermatophytosis in the &#xD;
pediatric population.</summary>
