Abstract:
The adaptation of adverse lifestyle in urban and semi urban population leads to increase in prevalence of
abdominal obesity, which is the basic cause for metabolic syndrome (Met S) in adults. The critical risk factors of this
syndrome include type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and cancer. According to World health
report of 2002, CVD will be the largest cause of morbidity and mortality in India.
