dc.description.abstract From times immemorial DIABETES is known to mankind with increasing prevalence of diabetes globally, it is estimated that around 6.9 crore Indians are diabetic next only to China, and with estimated 7.7 crore Indians have prediabetes. Trace elements and their homeostasis are essential for various cellular metabolic reactions, and in diabetes it is observed that trace elements are disrupted. Magnesium is an essential cofactor of more than 300 enzymes and is a vital cofactor in enzymes involved in the glucose metabolism. Magnesium has a role in production and action of insulin, and can also activate insulin receptor tyrosine activity. It is reported that magnesium is deficient in diabetes mellitus patients . en_US
